Teen Health Connection and partners, including Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools, are sponsoring a series of youth-focused events featuring a message of “prevention through inspiration,” as part of Charlotte Get Your Move On 2011.

Festivities include a performance by local youth dancers on Friday, April 8, at 7:30 p.m. at Elevation Blackney in South Charlotte, a high school youth conference at Northwest School of the Arts on Saturday, April 9, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and a professional conference, “Prevention Thru Inspiration: A Strength Based Approach to Working with Adolescents Within a System of Care,” at Covenant Presbyterian Church’s fellowship hall, 100 E. Morehead St.

The full-day youth conference will include a one-hour, multimedia community outreach performance by InnerACTIONS, written and choreographed for high school audiences. The performance explores mature themes such as suicide, drug and alcohol use and bullying and it may not be appropriate for younger audiences. Youths will have the opportunity to choose from many different breakout sessions, which will be geared toward helping discover and explore inner passions, including youth leadership.
