CHARLOTTE – A Charlotte-Douglas International Airport runway has been shutdown as crews build a de-icing facility on the property, and consequently, air traffic controllers are rerouting more incoming jets over northern Mecklenburg County.

Residents throughout the area and southern Iredell County have been complaining about the noisy flyovers since the runway was shutdown earlier this month, but the buzz of the turbine engines is only temporary.

Haley Gentry, spokeswoman for the airport, said the runway should reopen May 19, and flight patterns will then return to normal.
