CORNELIUS – In the days leading up to Mother’s Day, Our Towns Habitat for Humanity and Lowe’s Home Improvement Warehouse are looking for local women to volunteer to help construct five homes in Poole Place in Cornelius.
Habitat and Lowe’s are organizing crews of female volunteers across the country in recognition of National Women Build Week, April 30 through May 8. Our Towns Habitat started construction on its eighth women-build home in March and will continue to work on that home on May 8, Mother’s Day, when other women will work on four other new home builds.
In a news release, Amy Hartman, Women Build Lead and Our Towns board member, “Our Towns will need at least 60 women to join us on that day in order to complete our challenge. … You don’t have to know how to swing a hammer, we will teach you the skills you need on site.”
Lowe’s is contributing more than $1.3 million to National Women Build Week and providing $5,000 Lowe’s gift cards and building materials to more than 250 Habitat affiliates. National Women Build Week is one of the major initiatives supported through Lowe’s five-year, $20 million pledge to Habitat.
