South Lake Audiology has began a new treatment for patients suffering tinnitus, a constant ringing in the ear, using a device similar to a mp3 player that plays high frequencies in a treatment called Neuromonics.

The company that builds the device claims the high frequencies help the brain filter out the internal buzzing noises after patients listen to it for two hours a day for many weeks along while undergoing other cognitive treatments. Overtime, the goal of the treatment is to get the brain to ignore the ringing.

South Lake Audiology, located at 9710 Sam Furr Road at South Lake Ear Nose & Throat, will have tinnitus awareness month in May. For more information on the treatment or the practice, call 704-896-1909.
