Editor,

Well, here we go again – a bad case of the “gimmes.”

In 1995, The Peninsula neighborhood wanted perks if the town annexed them voluntarily. The “old-timers” at 5 Points road were not informed or willing, so that failed for a time.

The Peninsula wanted its entrance with flowers and shrubs planted and maintained by the Town of Cornelius. Who pays for that now is questionable. They also wanted those fancy lampposts, then bike lanes, sidewalks, etc. They got them with the exception of the lampposts.

Many feel The Peninsula was and is being granted preferential treatment.

It would be interesting to know how many Cornelius officials live in The Peninsula.

Editor’s note: Only Commissioner Jim Bensman lives in The Peninsula now, although Mayor Jeff Tarte lived there previously.
