CORNELIUS – Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 19600 Zion St., plans a series of Easter services this week, starting Thursday, April 21, with a Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m. with the Chancel Choir and Communion.

The other events are:

• On Good Friday, April 22, church members offer four presentations of “The Passion Story,” a 20-minute drama of the story of Jesus’ last week on earth. The story takes place at 6:30, 7, 7:30 and 8 p.m. in the Family Life Center.

• On Saturday, April 23, all children in the community – from toddlers through fourth grade – are invited to an Easter egg hunt at 10 a.m.

• On Easter Sunday, April 24, a sunrise service, with Communion, begins at 7 a.m. in the outdoor chapel, with the Genesis Youth Arts presenting “The Empty Tomb,” six stories by Carol A. Secord. Boy Scout Troop 10 will serve a pancake breakfast following the service, with proceeds going to the Helping Hands Fund.

The church holds three other worship services at 8:30, 9:45 and 11 a.m. The Chancel Choir, brass and organ will accompany the 8:30 and 11 services and the Praise Band will perform at 9:45 in the Family Life Center.
