On April 11, the Hough boys golf team won the I-MECK 4A conference tournament at NorthStone Country Club. The first-year program took the title with a team score of 299. Mallard Creek (324), North Mecklenburg (330), Mooresville (333) and Lake Norman (341) rounded out the top five. Hopewell (383) was sixth.

As a team, Hough captured all eight regular-season conference events and qualified for the 4A Western Regional tournament, which will be held at Charlotte’s Pine Island Country Club on May 2. After finishing at least fourth in the I-MECK, Mooresville, Lake Norman and Mallard Creek also will play at Pine Island.

Individually, five Hough golfers – David Sargent, Conner Lewis, Mace Timberlake, Peyton White and Clay Brown – finished the season in the top six of the I-MECK’s regular-season standings, earning all-conference honors. Sargent led all individual scorers, firing a 74 to earn the conference tournament title.

North Mecklenburg’s Danny Pizetoski tied Lewis for second in the regular-season standings and qualified as an individual for the regional tournament. He has won at least a share of the past two I-MECK individual titles. Hopewell’s Brandon Holst and North Meck’s Seth Priester also qualified for postseason play.
