On April 14, Hopewell boys basketball player Elliott Pope signed a National Letter of Intent to play for Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, Tenn. Pope is a three-year letterman who was the team captain and leading scorer in his senior season. He made all-conference in 2010-11 and was a second-team selection on the Carolina Weekly Newspaper Group’s 2011 Lake Norman-Area Boys Basketball Super Team.
