The Hopewell boys tennis team completed back-to-back undefeated I-MECK 4A conference seasons with a 9-0 sweep of Mallard Creek on April 9.
The victory was the Titans’ school-record 16th win. John David Curlis, Tyler Roberts, Brian Andersen, John Armato, Danny Wintermeier and Chris Hourihan won singles matches. The combinations of Curlis and Andersen, Roberts and Armato, and Wintermeier and Hourihan won the doubles matches.
“Winning conference was our No. 1 team goal, but going undefeated again is simply the result of hard work and dedication,” said Hopewell coach Craig Smith. “These guys put a lot of trust in me to prepare them to play, and our conference title is the reward.”
The Titans competed in the I-MECK singles and doubles tournament April 12-13. After spring break, Hopewell will take on the defending state champion Winston-Salem Reynolds. Hopewell qualified for postseason dual-team competition as the I-MECK’s No. 1 seed.
