About 5,000 Mecklenburg County residential property owners have received a second notice of property value, causing some confusion.

The Mecklenburg County Tax Assessor’s office sent out the second notices after determining values had changed after the initial revaluation notice. The second value could be for a number of reasons, primarily new construction that was completed after the initial notices were sent. If an owner receives a second notice, he or she can appeal that value. The assessor’s office could not provide a breakdown on the appeals notices by zip code.

The deadline for filing appeals on the initial notice was March 14. This small group of second notices went out March 21 along with notices for commercial property and condominiums. Deadline for those three groups to appeal is April 19.
