The Davidson Day baseball team won the Wayne Christian tournament, held in Goldsboro on Saturday, Feb. 26. The Patriots’ offense carried the load in victories over Wayne Christian School, 18-8, and Rocky Mount Academy, 20-13. Taylor Cox hammered three home runs and collected 10 RBIs while Will Reid was 7-for-7 over the weekend with a home run and six RBIs. Jared Hamilton had six hits in seven at bats and knocked in six runs. On the mound, Cox earned the win against Wayne Christian and Lamar Briggs was credited with the win against Rocky Mount.
“We are pleased to have a successful start to our first varsity baseball season,” said Davidson Day baseball coach Kevin Bringewatt. “Our young men played hard and were willing to compete. We’ll go back to work this week and just try to get a little better everyday.”
Next up for Davidson Day (2-0) is a three-team tournament at Greenville’s (S.C.) Shannon Forest Christian School on March 5. The Patriots also will face Merry Hill’s Lawrence Academy that weekend.
