CHARLOTTE – The Leon Levine Foundation made a $100,000 challenge grant to the Arts & Science Council (ASC) Annual Fund Drive’s Education Campaign, according to Council President Scott Provancher.

“The Arts & Science Council has really stepped out to develop a program for which it is uniquely positioned in response to a critical community need,” Tom Lawrence, executive director of the foundation, said. “This new program will become an example to the region of how arts and culture organizations can have meaningful impact on the education of our children.”

The grant will place the education campaign within $200,000 of its $1 million goal.

“We are so grateful to the Leon Levine Foundation. This gives us the incentive and renewed energy we need for the last days of our campaign,” Provancher said. “We hope the community now will respond to this challenge by helping us raise the last $200,000 of our goal so that we can begin the restoration of arts education for the school children of Charlotte-Mecklenburg.”
