HUNTERSVILLE – Three members of the North Mecklenburg High School Speech and Debate team qualified for the National Forensic League National Championship Tournament in Dallas, Texas, after competing in the forensic group’s Carolina West District Tournament on Friday, March 18.

Junior Brooke Carter qualified for the national tournament by placing second in Dramatic Interpretation. Carter and sophomore James Williams also placed second in Duo Interpretation and will attend nationals as a team.

Senior Raul Gonzalez placed second in Original Oratory. Sophomore Colleen Watson placed third in the same category and will serve as a first alternate.

Senior Brittany Watson and junior Lauren Calucag placed fourth as a pair in Duo Interpretation and will serve as second alternates for the national tournament. Watson also placed fourth in Humorous Interpretation.

Public Forum Debate partners Cameron Langford, a senior, and Conner Taylor, a junior, placed fourth and will be first alternates. The Public Forum Debate team of sophomore Abby Auerback and junior Catharine Bizub also reached the quarterfinal round of the tournament.
