CORNELIUS – Cornelius commissioners recognized the late Bill Lackey for his service to the town with an official resolution at its Monday, March 8, meeting.
Lackey died suddenly Dec. 7, at age 65 after falling from a ladder.
He was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and the Don Bridger Sunday School Class, led the Disciple Class for years, chaired the finance committee and served on other boards and committees.
He also served on the Town of Cornelius Planning Board, and as president of the Charlotte Regional Realtors Association, chairman of the Real Estate and Building Coalition and director of the N.C. Association of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors.
In 2000, he was named Realtor of the Year.
“He’s truly one of the good, good people in this community,” Cornelius Mayor Jeff Tarte said with Lackey’s wife, Barbara, by his side. “Life isn’t necessarily about the pursuit of happiness. Life is about being good, and that’s what Bill was and I’m going to miss him.”
