On March 7, the Lake Norman Charter high school golf team kicked off the 2011 season with an impressive 161-194 win over Gastonia Highland Tech, which finished third at last year’s Class 1A state championships.

The Knights were led by captains Sean Murphy, a junior who shot a 1-over-par 37, and Jake Blum, a sophomore, who shot a 4-over-par 40 at Woodbridge Golf Links in King’s Mountain. Rounding out the scoring for the Knights were senior Gib Baker, who fired a 42, and freshman Ross Goldbrum, who also shot a 42.

Lake Norman Charter next hosts Highland Tech at Davidson’s River Run Country Club on Wednesday, March 16, and then Charlotte Latin on Thursday, March 17.
