CHARLOTTE – The Mecklenburg PTA Council will host a presentation of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools budget Feb. 26 at 8:30 a.m. at the Metro School, 405 S. Davidson Street, Charlotte.
School superintendent Peter Gorman and members of his executive staff, including Chief Financial Officer Sheila Shirley, will present the preliminary budget proposal for the 2011-12 school year. Eric Davis, Chairman of the Mecklenburg County School Board, will also be in attendance.
“Understanding the proposed budget and how the various funding components are assembled into a school system budget will help us all to be fuller partners in the discussion of how to ensure all children reach their highest educational potential,” Mecklenburg PTA Council president Joni Trobich said.
A brief question and answer period will follow the presentation. Mecklenburg Citizens for Education — www.MeckEd.org — will follow with a presentation of how the CMS budget is constructed, the different sources of funding, and the process of assembling all of these components into a school system budget.
Free parking will be available at the CMS Education Center parking lot across the street from Metro School. Please use the entrances on Martin Luther King Boulevard.
