•Kimberly Abrams, a junior at Pine Lake Preparatory in Mooresville, has been awarded the 2010-11 Award for Aspirations in Computing by the National Center for Women and Information Technology. She was one of 15 young women selected from North Carolina. Kim is highly recognized for her leadership in the community and interest in computer science. She also participates as captain of the web team for Pine Lake’s FIRST FRC Robotics Team.



•Virginia Military Institute, in Lexington, Va., selected Cadet Dallas J. Disbro to receive a VMI Institute Merit Scholarship. The scholarship, funded by the VMI Foundation, recognizes Disbro’s achievements as a member of VMI’s Institute Honors Program and his general academic performance. Disbro, a junior, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen L. Disbro, of Cornelius.



•U.S. Senator Kay R. Hagan (D-NC) nominated 25 students from the Piedmont area to attend a U.S. Service Academy in 2011, including: Natasha Boozell, of Mooresville, and Samantha Garst, of Huntersville.



•Wofford College, in Spartanburg, S.C., named the following students to the Fall 2010 Dean’s List: Thomas Hall Irvin, of Davidson, and Gregory Thomas Pullen, of Huntersville.



•Colby College, in Waterville, Maine, named Charles Davis, son of Charmis and Jane Davis, of Cornelius, to the Fall 2010 Dean’s List.



•Samford University, in Bermingham, Ala., named the following student to the Fall 2010 Dean’s List: Charles Collins, a junior Brock Scholar and son of Kimberly and Mark Collins, of Cornelius.



•Hampden-Sydney College, in Hampden-Sydney, Va., named the following student to the Fall 2010 Dean’s List: David Coy Williams, a graduate of North Mecklenburg High School and the son of Kevin and Debbie Williams of Huntersville.



•Gardner-Webb University, in Boiling Springs, named the following students to the Fall 2010 Dean’s List: Brittany Lauren Blackwelder, of Huntersville, Kaitlyn Rene Huff, of Cornelius, and Lindsey Katherine Jackson, of Huntersville.



•Washington College, in Chestertown, Md., named the following student to the Fall 2010 Dean’s List: Gillian D. Hevey, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Craig S. Hevey, of Davidson.



•The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill selected Ethan Green, son of Jeff and Maria Green, of Cornelius, as a Morehead-Cain Scholarship finalist.
