Beware of scams this tax season

State Attorney General Roy Cooper is asking taxpayers to be wary of phony e-mails claiming to be from the Internal Revenue Service seeking personal information.

The e-mail currently circulating asks the recipient to fill out personal tax information, including social security, banking and credit card information, Cooper said.

The IRS does not communicate through e-mail.

If you receive this e-mail forward a copy to phishing@irs.gov to report it.

You can also report the e-mail to the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division by calling 1-877-566-7226.
