Barnette Elementary was one of just 32 schools nationwide to receive a grant for “Take Your Family to School Week,” observed this week.

The grant, awarded by the National Parent Teacher Association, aims to promote parent involvement in student achievement. Each day of the week is assigned a different theme, including “Science Discovery Day,” and “art crawl,” and parents are invited to share in their children’s experiences at school.

The $1,897 amount honors the year in which the National PTA was founded, 1897.
