The I-MECK 4A conference boys and girls basketball championship games will be held Friday, Feb. 18, at Hopewell High School.
In first-round boys action on Feb. 14, Hopewell and North Meck advanced to the semifinals. Hopewell squeaked past Vance, 58-55, as senior Michael Russell pumped in 17 points and center Elliot Pope added 13. The win moved the Titans into a Feb. 16 showdown with West Charlotte, which is the No. 2 team in the Weekly Super 10 Basketball Rankings.
North Meck had little trouble handling Lake Norman in the first round, securing a 69-52 victory to advance to the semifinals against Mooresville on Feb. 16.
In girls action, Hopewell blew away West Charlotte, 63-33, in the first round to advance to a Thursday, Feb. 17, matchup with Lake Norman, which topped North Meck, 52-46. Tip-off for the Hopewell-Lake Norman game is 7:30 p.m.
On the other side of the girls bracket, Hough eliminated Mooresville, 53-42. The Huskies were slated to face Mallard Creek in Thursday’s other semifinal at 6 p.m.
The girls title game will begin at 6:30 p.m., with the boys game to follow at approximately 8 p.m.
Admission for the championship games is $7.
