The Lake Norman Charter girls basketball team won all 10 conference games and collected its second consecutive Piedmont Athletic Conference tournament title last week.
The Knights, who have an 18-4 record, sandwiched two wins over Lincoln Charter (56-42 on Jan. 31 and 45-34 on Feb. 4) around a victory over Covenant Day (45-17) to clinch the crown.
But Knights coach Bobby Williams said his squad was really put to the test in a win at independent SouthLake Christian Academy on Feb. 7. The Knights, a Class 1A public school, fell behind 12-0 in the first quarter before rallying to a 57-48 victory, outscoring the Eagles 22-9 in the third period. The loss dropped the Eagles’ overall record to 18-5. They finished second in the Metrolina Athletic Conference with a mark of 10-2.
“Girl for girl, SouthLake was probably the best team we played this season,” said Williams. “If we are fortunate enough, we could see a team like in the first couple rounds of the 1A state playoffs.”
