DAVIDSON –- Davidson College Professor of Philosophy Paul Studtmann will auction a badly damaged painting, entitled “Falling Down Man,” on Friday, Dec. 9, at 8 p.m. at Summit Coffee House, 128 S. Main St.

Studtmann will donate all proceeds from the sale of “Falling Down Man” and other art pieces to ArtWorks945, a program of the Urban Ministry Center in Charlotte, which helps homeless people find shelter. The auction is free and open to the public.

Although a local appraiser in Davidson declared the work valueless, because of its damage, Studtmann believes the damage improves the work. “Sometimes an accident can complete a work of art, and that’s what I believe happened,” Studtmann said.

Studtmann will give a brief presentation before the auction, which includes several pieces by artists participating in ArtWorks945.
