CHARLOTTE – A former Huntersville Honda dealership owner has entered a guilty plea in an embezzlement case that allows him to stay out of jail but requires him to repay all of his victims.

Fifty-eight year old Reginald Timothy Hubbard, who owned Hubbard Automotive, pleased guilty this week to 11 counts of aiding and abetting embezzlement of state property, 12 counts of aiding and obtaining property by false pretense and malfeasance of a corporate agent, the Mecklenburg County district attorney said.

Hubbard was accused of running a scam in which he would sell someone a vehicle, take their car as a trade in and not pay the remaining lien on that trade-in. This effectively left the victim with two car payments, unbeknownst to the buyer.

Hubbard was given a 29 month to four year suspended sentence given he completes 18 months of supervised probation, completes 50 hours of community service and he repays all of his victims, the district attorney said in a release.

Hubbard has paid $30,500 in restitution so far and will continue to make payments on the debts, the release said. All of the outstanding liens have been paid off and titles have been returned to their owners, the release said.
