Third-graders at Woodlawn School recently visited Fifth Street Ministries, a Statesville homeless shleter, for their monthly service trip. The homeless shelter provides breakfast to its residents and lunch and dinner to those in the community who are in need and turns away no one.

While at the shelter, Woodlawn students helped plate and serve food and dessert, pour water, greet others and pass out candy. They also made crafts and table decorations before visiting the shelter to brighten up the shelter and raised $245.81 through a schoolwide bake sale. The shelter’s director gave students a grocery wish list for upcoming holiday meals, and students will purchase the items and deliver the food themselves.
