CORNELIUS – A fire was reported Saturday, Dec. 10, in a wooded area off of Coachman’s Trace in the Glenridge neighborhood. Investigators said it was intentionally set.
No injuries or damages were reported, and firefighters were able to quickly put out the 10-foot by 15-foot fire, Mecklenburg County Fire Marshal David Conrad said.
The Glenridge community has been struggling with a glut of arsons over the past year. Since December 2010, four fires have been set in the neighborhood with three homes being destroyed and several others damaged.
Police arrested Robert Joseph Prevatte, 31, of Meadow Crossing Lane, earlier this year, charging him with setting the fires. The Mecklenburg County District Attorney dropped the charges recently because of insufficient evidence.
Fire investigators would not say if last week’s fire was at all similar to the previous fires in the neighborhood, citing the ongoing investigation.
