CHARLOTTE – Seth Smith pleaded guilty last week to two counts of misdemeanor death by vehicle for an October 2009 wreck that killed Courtney Puckett and her 14-month-old daughter Allie Grace.
Smith, 29, was sentenced to 200 days in prison for his plea. He will report to prison after Christmas.
Prosecutors had few options with the case. There were no skid marks on Wynfield Creek Road and investigators were unsure exactly how fast Smith was traveling when his Honda Accord slid off of the road and into a tree. Both mother and daughter died at the scene.
Puckett’s family said their daughter and granddaughter were most likely helping Smith move the day of the wreck. Puckett left behind an 8-year-old son named Josh. He was not in the car at the time of the accident.
