CHARLOTTE – A Norfolk Southern train derailed near Old Statesville Road and David Cox Road on Monday, Nov. 28, temporarily causing the road to shut down in the early evening.

Traffic resumed a few hours after the incident.

The rails spread apart on the track which caused the train to derail, said Norfolk Southern representative Robin Chapman. According to Chapman, the train had 11 cars behind the locomotive. The locomotive and the first car behind it were overturned during the incident.

Charlotte Mecklenburg Police say no one was injured, and no other vehicles were involved in the derailment.
