The Carolinas Freedom Foundation is honoring Purple Heart Homes with the Carolinas Freedom Foundation Freedom Award. The USO of North Carolina and Operation Homefront North Carolina were given special achievement awards.

The Mooresville-based Purple Heart Homes builds homes for injured service members.

“These organizations have demonstrated their commitment to furthering the cause of freedom, through their service, courage and leadership,” said Osborne Oakley, executive director of the Carolinas Freedom Foundation. “Purple Heart Homes, the USO of North Carolina and Operation Homefront of North Carolina serve those who have dedicated their lives so that we may enjoy our freedoms. We are honored to bestow upon them our Freedom Award and Special Achievement Awards.”

Dale Beatty and John Gallina, founders of Purple Heart Homes, will serve as Grand Marshals at the 2011 Salute to Veterans Day Parade, Saturday, Nov. 5, at 11 a.m. along Tryon Street.
