CONCORD – Cannon School student theater productions won four awards at a North Carolina Theatre Conference regional high school play festival Nov. 4-5 in Kings Mountain.
Cannon was one of 13 public and independent high schools that competed at one of the festival’s eight regional sites. Organizers gave each school 45 minutes to set up, perform their play and remove their set. Students performed two plays, “The Hitch-Hiker” and “Sorry, Wrong Number.”
Austin Larkin, a senior from Davidson, won the Excellence in Acting Award for “The Hitch-Hiker,” while Hailey Wade, a senior from the University City area, won the Award for Excellence in Costume Design for “Sorry, Wrong Number.” Theater teacher David Fitzsimmons also received an Award for Excellence in Director for “The Hitch-Hiker,” while the play’s cast received an Award for Excellence in Set, Costume and Sound Design.
“It is a joy and an honor for students to be recognized by their peers,” Fitzsimmons said. “I am very proud of their students for their commitment to the collaborative creative process that led to these awards.”
