CHARLOTTE – Families that have children who plan to attend Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools for the 2012-13 may now enroll.
Enrollment is open to children entering pre-kindergarten, kindergarteners who did not attend a district pre-kindergarten program or older students who will be new to the school district.
Students must be enrolled by Dec. 2 to be eligible for the first magnet lottery, which takes place Jan. 6 to Feb. 13. Families who are enrolled by the Dec. 2 deadline will receive a personalized magnet-lottery instruction sheet by mail during the first week of January. Families who plan to send their children to their assigned home school do not have to register by Dec. 2 but are encouraged to enroll as soon as possible.
Children must be 5 years old on or before Aug. 31 to be eligible for kindergarten. Students must be 4 years old on or before Aug. 31 to be considered for pre-kindergarten.
To enroll students in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, families must provide three documents to show proof of residency, fill out a Safe Schools Enrollment Declaration per state law and provide an official birth certificate, with seal, and a copy of the child’s current immunization record. New student enrollment forms are available online at the district’s website, www.cms,k12.nc.us/cmsdepartments/studentplacement/pages/enrolling
