HUNTERSVILLE – Preschoolers and elementary school students from Chesterbrook Academy’s Huntersville and Mooresville locations spent the morning of Sept. 29 loading relief packages on to a truck bound for Binghamton, N.Y.
Binghamton faces an estimated $25 million of infrastructure and water treatment damages following Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee. Chesterbrook teacher Dawn Inman, who is originally from Binghamton, will drive the truck from North Carolina to the town and will distribute the donations to residents.
Students and families from both Chesterbrook locations participated in the school’s “Giving Without Walls” initiative by donating items such as non-perishable food, clothing and cleaning supplies.
“Students learned that it is just as important to help those in need, even if they are not living in their own community,” a school news release said. “Through this project, students also learned the word ‘community’ can have multiple meanings and can include people who live in a different state or different parts of the world.”
