Lake Norman Charter volleyball is perfect
Lake Norman Charter’s volleyball team improved to 17-0 with a 3-0 sweep (25-4, 25-12, 25-15) victory against East Lincoln on Oct. 4. The victory gave the Knights a 12-0 record in the Southern Piedmont 1A/2A conference. This is their first season in the league.
Top players are Katie Fabian, Katie Sevin, Julie Newell, Korinne Belfield and Emily Hunt.

SouthLake volleyball streak at 18

SouthLake Christian’s volleyball team improved its record to 18-0 with a 25-13, 25-6, 25-13 sweep against Concord First Assembly on Sept. 29. The Eagles lead the Metrolina Athletic Conference with an 11-0 record.
SouthLake’s Katie Schoenrock had 16 kills and five aces, both game-highs. Dakoda Hawkins had 17 assists, and Lucy Iannarino added 13 assists. Kalya Summer added nine kills for the Eagles.

Local athletes shine at Cannon

Sisters Annie and Kate Collom, who live in Davidson, shot 42 and 46 respectively, to help the Concord Cannon girls golf team remain undefeated in an Oct. 3 matchup against Charlotte Country Day and Providence Day.
Cannon (7-0) fended off Charlotte Country Day, 126-147. Providence Day finished third at 177.
• Huntersville resident and Cannon senior Tim Gruber ran a personal-best 15 minutes, 45 seconds to finish second in the Independent School Championships cross country race last Saturday in Cary. The Cannon boys team finished third among eight teams. Three Lake Norman-area graduates traveled from the University of North Carolina to cheer on their former classmates: Cameron Cook of Mooresville, Andrew Powell of Cornelius and Eden Sipperly of Mooresville.

Hough to host benefit event

Hough High will host a “Dig Pink Rally” at its Tuesday, Oct. 11, volleyball match against Lake Norman to raise money for breast cancer research. All proceeds will be donated to the Side-Out Foundation. Fans are encouraged to wear pink and bring donations of $5 to $10. The event will include music and T-shirts for sale.

Lake Norman Charter soccer

Tommy Mikuleza’s two goals helped Lake Norman Charter beat Gastonia Highland Tech 4-1 in a Southern Piedmont 1A/2A conference soccer game on Oct. 4. Evan Lucas and Frank Silva also scored for Lake Norman Charter, which improved to 10-2-2.

Hat trick sparks Hopewell win

Cole Tesar scored three goals in Hopewell’s 4-2 boys soccer victory against North Mecklenburg in an I-MECK 4A conference match Oct. 3. Edwin Gomez scored the other goal for Hopewell, which improved to 4-6-2.
Juan Penarando and Seth Ewing-Hedricks scored for North Mecklenburg.

Lake Norman Charter wins golf event

Lake Norman Charter won a Southern Piedmont 1A/2A girls golf event at Lincolnton Country Club on Oct. 3. The Knights scored 147, seven strokes ahead of second-place North Lincoln, followed by East Lincoln (157), Gastonia Highland (162) and Lincolnton (168).
Maegan Ports (43) finished third among individuals, and teammates Brittany Buckstad (48) and Kayla Thomas (56) helped win the title.
