CONCORD – Cannon School recently welcomed community leaders throughout the Charlotte region, including Cornelius Mayor Jeff Tarte and Davidson Mayor John Woods, to sit on its newly established Board of Visitors.

During the board’s inaugural meeting Sept. 30, members discussed key strategic issues facing Cannon School and its surrounding neighborhoods. The board will meet twice per year.

“We are honored that so many community and business leaders are committed to helping Cannon School prepare students for a world that promises to be unpredictable,” Head of School Matt Gossage said. “Their leadership will strengthen Cannon’s relationships in the many communities we serve in the Concord, Lake Norman, Charlotte and Kannapolis areas.”

Guest speaker Humpy Wheeler, former president and general manager of Charlotte Motor Speedway, joined board members.

Cannon School’s Board of Visitors is chaired by Patti Wheeler, executive vice president of Speed, the Charlotte-based motorsports cable network, and Lawrence Kimbrough, past president and Chief Executive Officer of First Charter Corporation of Charlotte. Wheeler and Kimbrough previously served as members of Cannon School’s Board of Trustees.
