Davidson College Biology Professor Mike Dorcas and former student and co-author J.D. Willson presented their latest snake book at Charlotte’s Discovery Place Sunday, Oct. 16. The herpetologists’ 14-foot guest of honor brought the subject of their book, “Invasive Pythons in the United States: Ecology of an Introduced Predator” to life. The book covers general python biology and studies Burmese pythons that have escaped or been released into Florida’s Everglades, thrived and climbed to the top of the food chain. These 20-foot, 200-pound reptiles are impacting the Everglades’ species and ecosystems.
