DAVIDSON – Professor Julio J. Ramirez, a psychology professor at Davidson College, will receive the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring, an honor bestowed by President Barack Obama, on Thursday, Jan. 27, in Washington, D.C.
Ramirez earned the award for his teaching methods, which encourages student involvement in meaningful research projects, which he calls “tearching.”
The awards are given annually to recognize the teachers and institutions that provide broad opportunities for participation by women, minorities and people with disabilities in science, mathematics and engineering.
