The North Mecklenburg wrestling team hopes to rebuild its history at the Vikings’ home match against Hopewell on Feb. 2 at 7 p.m.

Vikings coach Sean Finkbeiner is encouraging all former Viking wrestlers to attend the match.

“We’re hoping past champions will attend the match so I can get their history information as well as open up communication for possible corporate sponsorship/donations to help create ‘The Wall of Champions’ and help build the financial foundation for the North Mecklenburg wrestling program,” said Finkbeiner. “We are asking the communities to help gather past records and pictures of North Meck wrestling participants and champions from the past 60 years. The best and most respectable way I could honor them at wrestling’s new permanent home of North Meck High School is that we are making anew.”
