On Jan. 22, Lake Norman Charter won both the boys and girls Piedmont Athletic Conference swimming championships to earn the school’s first league titles in that sport.
The Lake Norman Charter girls gathered 217 points, well ahead of Mooresville Pine Lake Prep (128), Matthews Grace Academy (82) and Denver Lincoln Charter (24).
Lake Norman Charter’s boys overwhelmed the competition with 241 points. Lincoln Charter (81) was second, followed by Grace (74) and Pine Lake Prep (56).
The Knights’ Abbey Joiner (200-yard individual medley), Lauren Davis (100 freestyle) and Carly Clark (100 breaststroke) won individual events for the girls. Brian Piccirilli (200 IM and 100 backstroke), Grayson Spittel (50 freestyle), Chris Cardwell (100 freestyle) and Brian Davis (100 breaststroke) took gold for the boys.
Lake Norman Charter also won all six relay events: the boys and girls 200 medley, 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle.
Lake Norman Charter swimmers will compete next in the 1A/2A Western Regional meet on Feb. 4 at Huntersville Family Fitness & Aquatics.
