HUNTERSVILLE – Kateryna Grygorivska, a 13-year-old orphan from Ukraine, came to stay with Kimberly Owen, of Huntersville, for the holiday season.

“There is a foundation called New Horizons for Children,” Owen said, “and they try to get families to host orphans from Russia, Latvia and the Ukraine.”

That’s how she found Kateryna.

“They do not have good dental care over there,” she said. So while Kateryna was here, Owen contacted her dentist, Dr. Brent Crawford, of Family and Cosmetic Dentistry in Huntersville, for a dental exam.

Crawford said he is a part of a group of health care professionals who help with the Lake Norman Children’s Relief in the summer, so helping Kateryna was right up his alley. He did the work for free.

“He went overboard,” Owen said. “He went way beyond what I asked.”
