County leads state in holiday traffic citations

During the recent holiday season local police and the Highway Patrol issued more citations to drivers in Mecklenburg County than in any other county in the state.

Officers issued 13,580 citations in the county during the month-long Booze It & Lose It campaign that ran from Dec. 3 to Jan. 2. Wake County had the second highest number of citations in the state.

During the campaign, officers conducted 54 checkpoints and arrested 360 drivers for DWI in the county.

Throughout the state, police issued 140,830 tickets during the campaign.
