CORNELIUS – Cornelius commissioners accepted a $518,000 bid to rebuild a fire truck Monday night, Dec. 6. Seagrave Fire Apparatus submitted the bid that was selected.

The town purchased the 1995 truck in September, and opened bids in October. While the Seagrave bid was not the cheapest bid available, Town Manager Anthony Roberts said he felt that bid was the best value. The Seagrave truck will be steel instead of aluminum and will have a 15-year warranty.

Roberts recommended waiting to pay the full amount, just in case the board wanted to fund something else in the future, but the board decided to go ahead and pay for the truck in full. Seagrave offered the town a discount of roughly $7,500 for prepayment.

The board also:

• Heard a presentation from Bryan Starnes, of Martin-Starnes and Associates, on the audit of the fiscal year 2010;

• Appointed Sammie Knox to the Cornelius Library Endowment Fund Committee;

• Heard an update on the Comprehensive Master Plan at the pre-meeting;

• Approved the calendar for planning next year’s budget.
