Three North Mecklenburg High School clubs joined forces this month to give a special gift to students at Charlotte Community School for Girls. They built and filled bookshelves for the students.

The North Meck Architectural Design Club designed and built the bookshelves. Each shelf has a personalized brass nameplate and a dedication from the North Meck club to the students at the Community School, a middle school for low-income girls.

To fill the shelves, the North Meck senior class organized a book drive, collecting gently used books appropriate for the Community School girls’ different reading levels and interests.

Books that did not end up on the shelves for the girls were given to literacy  teachers at North Meck and the Grier Heights Family Outreach Center.
To finish off the gift, North Meck Horticulture students made bows for the shelves, which were delivered Dec. 15.
