Editor,
I am tired of people leaving leaves on the ground so they blow in my yard when a front comes through. I tolerate the ones being blown off the trees but this other needs to stop. I started cleaning up leaves on Nov. 17. As of Dec. 15 I have now mulched this yard a few times, filled the yard waste container each week, and created 51 bags of leaves. All of this for a yard that only contains two dogwoods as of October instead of more than 40 trees 23 years ago.
Over the 23 years I have heard many excuses about leaving the leaves. In that time the Internet has become available. I suggest that you do some research by querying the following: “mulching oak leaves,” “copperhead habitats,” “hawk habitats” and “skunk habitats.” I cannot be the only Baby Boomer that wants more flexibility in how I spend my time and money.
I have held my tongue over the years and tried to answer politely. However, the time for being polite and nice is over. I called the town the last two weeks but have not seen any sign of help. I am researching yard sign codes. I have an idea that may help deliver the message. Ironically there may be a town code prohibiting the signage.
