Editor,
I read the article (Dec. 9, “Aquatic center debate prompts questions of bias”) concerning a $42,900 bonus for Huntersville Family Fitness and Aquatic center management company and am puzzled as to why, WHY, would the town board even consider giving this bonus when contract stipulations have not been met? Moreover, HFFA hasn’t even paid back $1 of the $5,000,000 it owes to the Town of Huntersville (i.e., me, the taxpayer)! Just because previous town boards have let these things slide is NO reason to continue mismanaging taxpayer dollars. This stinks of an entitlement mentality. Shame on the previous boards for allowing this precedent and mentality to be established. I applaud commissioners Caulfield, Jeter and Lucas for representing me well by using common sense, along with practical business sense, in this situation. I hope the board stands firm on this vote, holds HFFA accountable for repaying its debt to the town and that the management company is required to meet all contractual conditions before receiving any bonus dollars.
