The Charlotte Area Transit System has worked with the town of Davidson to identify more parking spaces at the intersection Griffth Street and Davidson Gateway Drive to accommodate an expected influx of 77X North Mecklenburg Express passengers from Mooresville.
“We’re taking some parking spots there so people can go there, and hopefully, we won’t get too many going to downtown Davidson, said Larry Kopf, chief operations planning officer for CATS.
Mooresville currently provides Express bus service to an average of 59 passengers commuting to and from uptown Charlotte, but its board of commissioners voted against extending its contract with CATS, set to expire Dec. 31. The concern is that many of those passengers could start riding the 77X and taking already sparse downtown parking spaces.
CATS is developing its Countywide Transit Service Plan, a blueprint for service improvements through 2017. For more information, visit www.ridetransit.org.
