CORNELIUS – Midtown Sundries -Haborside shuttered its operation last week, but new tenants for the 18665 Harborside Drive have already began remodeling work.
Midtown Sundries, which opened in Cornelius in 1999, quietly closed its doors Dec. 8 after foreclosure proceedings were started in September because of more than $60,000 owed in back taxes, state records show.
The building’s new tenants, Latitude 36 Raw Bar & Grille, have already started remodeling the interior and expect to open sometime in January, owner David Hedges said.
Hedges said the core of Latitude’s menu will be seafood, but Chef Don Vilain will keep items like steaks and chicken dishes featured on the menu along with healthier fare.
“We’ll definitely have the great bar food like wings and burgers and things like that for the football games,” Hedges said. “We hope to see as many of the old (Midtown Sundries) customers as we can … We’re just hoping we can expand the demographic.”
Jason Stapleton and Rachel Michael will serve as the restaurant’s general managers.
