HUNTERSVILLE – Huntersville Police are investigating two break-ins over the weekend of local high schools.

Coaches at North Mecklenburg High School, 11201 Old Statesville Road, called police Monday morning after noticing a chain used to lock the fence leading to the football field had been cut, and the field house had been broken into. Thieves rummaged through desks and a cabinet and set off a fire extinguisher, police said. A school golf cart had been pushed out of its holding area and into a draining area, police said.

Nothing was taken and school staff was able to clean up the mess easily, Athletic Director Kevin Wilson said.

Coaches at Hopewell High School, 11530 Beatties Ford Road, also called police Monday after thieves broke into four buildings and a trailer overnight.

Police said doors to the school’s band trailer, two concession stands, field house and ticket booth were pried open. Some graffiti was carved into the field house door and a projector was taken, police said.

Police are investigating if the incidents are related.
