NASCAR legend Humpy Wheeler and Duke Energy Carolinas President Brett Carter, both of Huntersville, were two of four dads honored recently as American Diabetes Association-Charlotte’s 2010 Fathers of the Year.

Wheeler, Carter and the other dads raised $278,000 for ADA’s research and education programs at the 10th annual gala at the Westin Hotel uptown. The other dads honored were Piedmont Gas CEO Tom Skains, of Charlotte, and senior vice president and chief human resources officer at Lance, Inc. Kevin Henry, of Waxhaw. Charlotte fathers have raised more than $1.7 million to help the ADA and the area’s more than 195,000 diabetics. The Herald Weekly was a 2010 Father of the Year program partner.
