Representative Thom Tillis, a republican from Cornelius, was elected Saturday, Nov. 20, as Speaker of the North Carolina House of Representatives. Republicans elected Tillis, the current minority whip, over minority leader Paul Stam, of Apex. Tillis takes charge at the same time the Republican Party gains control of the N.C. House and Senate for the first time in more than a century.
