HUNTERSVILLE – The historic Hugh Torance House and Store holds an open house Nov. 14, a Sunday, from 2 to 5 p.m. at 8231 Gilead Road.

The event is open and free to the public, though donations are welcome. The historic home is North Carolina’s oldest standing store and one of Mecklenburg County’s few surviving 18th century structures.

Local docents will offer tours, and Ann Williams will share stories from her book, “Your Affectionate Daughter, Isabella,” which details the story of the Torance family in antebellum Mecklenburg County.

Ramah Christian Classical School, Visit Lake Norman, the Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce and Rural Hill are sponsoring the open house. Light refreshments will be served. Find more information on the historic site at its website, www.torancehouseandstore.org, or leave a message at 704-875-3271.
