CORNELIUS – More than 200 people honed their putting skills last weekend at Lake Norman’s newest family attraction, Lake Norman Miniature Golf.

Huntersville residents Kip and Kari Zent opened the course Nov. 5 at 18639 Statesville Road in Cornelius after moving from Wisconsin a few years ago.
“It’s really our kids’ faults” how the mini golf course came to be, they said.

Shortly after they moved to the area, the family was surprised to learn there were no mini-golf courses nearby.

“I’ve always wanted to own my own business,” Kip Zent said.  “Everyone we asked said it looked like a promising endeavor.”

The course has 18 holes, nine of which are wheelchair accessible. The course was designed by COST of Wisconsin Inc., and five local companies – Morris Irrigation Nature and Turf, Landmark Fence, Ike’s Construction, WSP-Sells Engineering and Landscape Architecture – worked with the designer.

The course is open 7 days a week and will remain open until Dec. 12, weather permitting. The Zents plan to be open on Thanksgiving day and throughout that holiday weekend.

“Seeing our ideas, our plans, come to fruition — things on paper transformed to reality,” Kip Zent said, “that was the best part of all of this.”
